Five ways to experience the Ecological Route: the first day in Milagres
The first day in Milagres shouldn't be a race to tick off a list. It has one real task: to understand the place before deciding anything else.

August is, for many travellers from Argentina and Uruguay, the month to escape the winter. And there is more than one way to experience the Ecological Route of Milagres, on the northern coast of Alagoas — a region that is part of the Costa dos Corais, according to the Alagoas State Tourism Secretariat: some look for the river and its encounters with nature, some prefer the sea without the logic of a beach club, some travel for the local food, and some simply want to find their own pace. Over August we will go through, week by week, five different ways to experience this destination in a series of articles. But all of that variety always begins in the same place: the first day. And the first day in Milagres shouldn't be a race to tick off a list.
Arriving is not the same as starting to travel
Anyone landing in Maceió and heading north usually arrives with a mental list of beaches, outings and restaurants already organised. That's understandable: holidays are short and the temptation to make the most of every hour is strong. But the Ecological Route of Milagres doesn't work that way. Here, the first day has one real task: to understand the place before deciding anything else.
That means watching how the tide moves, feeling the temperature of the air at the end of the afternoon, listening to the sound of the sea from the house. Before booking an outing or choosing a restaurant, it is worth simply being here.

The tide matters more than the schedule
In this part of Alagoas, the tide shapes much of the experience: there are natural pools that only appear when the sea goes out, jangada trips that depend on the level of the Tatuamunha river, and beaches that change completely from one hour to the next. That's why the first piece of advice from anyone who knows the Route is always the same: before planning the rest of the week, first watch how the water behaves on that particular day.
A simple first day: groceries, sea and rest
The rest of the first day can be short and simple:
- Do the basic grocery shopping so the house is ready;
- Take a first step into the sea, without needing to pick the “perfect” beach;
- Choose a nearby restaurant, without turning your arrival into a food marathon;
- Be back before the afternoon fades, to enjoy the pool, the veranda and the first sunset of the trip.

Every traveller discovers the Route differently
This is the first chapter of a series we publish all through August. In the coming weeks we talk about the Tatuamunha river and its encounters with nature, about calmer ways to experience the sea, about food that goes beyond the well-known restaurants, and about how each traveller can find their own way through this part of the Costa dos Corais.
That's why those who stay at Pontal da Enseada receive exclusive materials prepared by our team, with up-to-date suggestions for outings, food, shopping and local experiences — plus help organising bookings and times even before arriving.
